Winery history Haut-Médoc

The Haut-Médoc has a centuries-old winemaking history and was formally recognized as an appellation by the INAO by decree on 14 November 1936. Over the centuries the landscape and the terroirs have been shaped by human activity, including land-reclamation works in past centuries, and by the rise of the great châteaux, which have contributed to the Médoc's reputation.

Production philosophy

Production in the Haut-Médoc is founded on a balance between terroir expression and the art of blending: winemakers aim for structured, age-worthy red wines while maintaining a broad, accessible range. There is an emphasis on biodiversity and land stewardship, and a strong tradition of blending Cabernet and Merlot with other grape varieties to add complexity.

Terroir and vineyards

Located on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, just north of the city of Bordeaux, the Haut-Médoc vineyard stretches for tens of kilometres and includes numerous communes, including areas adjacent to renowned appellations such as Margaux, Pauillac and Saint-Julien. Soils range from gravel to sand and clay; the climate is influenced by the estuary and the ocean, which moderate temperature extremes.
