Winery history Krohn (Wiese & Krohn)

Founded as Wiese & Krohn by two Norwegians, Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn, the company began as an exporter of Port to the Scandinavian and German markets. Over the course of the 20th century ownership became Portuguese; in June 2013 Fladgate Partnership acquired the Wiese & Krohn brand, stock and vineyards. More recently, the brand and production assets were included in acquisitions by WineStone as part of their Douro portfolio.

Production philosophy

Preserving and enhancing long-maturing wines: Krohn focuses on producing barrel-aged Port and on selecting grapes from qualified vineyards, combining traditional aging methods with oenological practices aimed at preserving the identity of individual vintages and quintas.

Terroir and vineyards

Douro region, specifically the Quinta do Retiro Novo located in Sarzedinho, in the Rio Torto valley; cellar operations and historic storage are in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Awards and recognitions

Among the distinctions listed for some labels is, for example, the mention "MELHOR DA REGIÃO 2007".
