BrewDog is a Scottish brand best known for beer that has also operated in the spirits sector through BrewDog Distilling Co. (brands LoneWolf / Duo Rum / Abstrakt). It produced craft gin and rum made at its Aberdeenshire facility; spirits production has been subject to recent corporate changes.
BrewDog started as a craft beer company (founded in 2007). In 2016–2017 the group launched a distilling division (LoneWolf / BrewDog Distilling Co.) to produce gin, vodka and rum in-house, with internally designed equipment and a 'from scratch' production approach. In January 2026 BrewDog announced the cessation of production of its distilled brands at the Ellon facility; in the first quarter of 2026 there were also corporate operations affecting some group assets.
Production philosophy
Focus on bold flavors and experimentation; vertical control of the product (production of the base spirit in-house before botanical infusion) and positioning as craft spirits with emphasis on quality and taste rather than conventional formulas.
Territory
Scotland (Ellon, Aberdeenshire)
Production method
On-site production on proprietary equipment with copper pot stills (facility described as 'triple-bubble' / large rectifying column). For gins the base is produced in-house (neutral base/vodka) and then enriched with botanicals; production is described as small-batch. For rums a molasses-based component is combined with internally produced spirits and Caribbean rum for some expressions.
Distillation
Copper pot stills on proprietary equipment (described as 'triple-bubble' with rectifying column to obtain neutral bases); production of the base spirit on-site and subsequent infusion/mixing with botanicals or spices. Small-batch production.
