Producer history Dzama

The Dzama brand was started in the late 1970s/early 1980s by Lucien Fohine on the island of Nosy Be (Madagascar). Initially linked to whisky bottling and the use of empty whisky casks for rum maturation, production was moved to Antananarivo in 1984 for logistical reasons. Over time Dzama established itself as one of the country’s main rum producers and expanded its commercial range.

Production philosophy

Highlighting Malagasy terroir: Dzama emphasizes the influence of the territory (local aromatic plants such as ylang-ylang and vanilla, volcanic soils) in characterizing its rums, avoiding artificial ingredients and maintaining strict quality controls.

Territory

Madagascar (historical origin: island of Nosy Be; production later moved to Antananarivo).
