Distillation and production

Production method

Production on a 45-hectare estate with vineyards registered for the AOC Armagnac. Vintage cuvées are offered at natural strength (often cask strength) and bottled on request; only water is used to reduce alcohol. The barley for the whisky is grown on the estate, malted and distilled on site; the whisky matures in Gascon oak casks.

Ageing

Aging in oak barrels for Armagnac eau-de-vie; for the whisky in Gascon oak barrels of 400 litres filled to 250 litres to favour oxygen exchange and aromatic development. Some vintages are aged for decades.

Producer history Rounagle

Vines on the site have been cultivated for centuries, but Domaine Rounagle was started at the end of 2015 with the aim of practicing organic farming and producing Armagnac, wine and whisky reflecting the local territory. Barley for whisky was sown from 2016 and the first distillation took place in 2017.

Production philosophy

Working in harmony with nature and the rhythms of the seasons; organic farming practices and care for the land and traditional varieties to enhance the Ténarèze terroir.

Territory

Larroque-sur-l'Osse (Gers), the Ténarèze area of the AOC Armagnac; clay-limestone soils typical of the zone, South-West France climate.
