The story
Production of liqueurs linked to the Toro name has deep roots in Tocco da Casauria: family tradition dates the first production to 1817, when Beniamino Toro began preparing an herb-based liqueur in his pharmacy. Today the company operates as Enrico Toro Distilleria Casauria SRL, continuing the historic production (centerba and derivatives) alongside a modern range of liqueurs and distillates.
Production philosophy
Combine local tradition of herb- and root-based recipes gathered from the Abruzzo mountains with modern technologies to ensure quality and safety. The company enhances local raw materials and historic recipes (centerba, gentian, ratafià) adapting them to contemporary markets.
Territory
Tocco da Casauria (province of Pescara), Abruzzo — surrounding mountain areas (Monte Morrone, Maiella/Gran Sasso) from which many medicinal herbs used in the recipes are collected.
Production method
Production based on macerations and alcohol infusions for the liqueurs (e.g. gentian, ratafià, liquorice) and discontinuous/steam distillation for the grappa. Bottling is carried out at the Tocco da Casauria facility; for some products traditional processes handed down within the company are used alongside updated equipment.
Distillation
discontinuous pot-still / steam distillation (traditional method used for grappa)
