The Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG Riserva Risveglio 2021 represents the highest expression of Sangiovese in the Tuscan land, a wine that embodies all the strength and elegance of a unique territory, where the volcanic soils of Monte Amiata meet careful artisanal work and a long aging process.
The grapes come from a selected vineyard located at 245 meters altitude, with a southwest exposure. The significant temperature variations between day and night, combined with breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea, promote a slow and complete ripening of the grapes, ensuring a high aromatic concentration. The volcanic origin soil, rich in sandstone, marl, and calcareous clay, gives the wine a distinct minerality, freshness, and an elegant, deep tannic structure.
The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, with a strict selection of the best grape clusters. Made from a blend in which Sangiovese represents at least 90%, in full compliance with the Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG regulations, the wine undergoes a first fermentation in steel, followed by three months of aging on fine lees. It then matures for at least 24 months in French oak barriques and completes its process with at least 12 months of bottle aging, reaching an overall aging of over three years before release.
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it offers a complex and enveloping bouquet, with notes of ripe red fruit and jam intertwined with elegant spicy hints of licorice, vanilla, and sweet woods. On the palate, it is warm, structured, and harmonious, supported by pleasant freshness, marked mineral sapidity, and fine, well-integrated tannins, leading to a long and persistent finish.
Produced in a limited edition of about 3,000 bottles per year, Risveglio is a wine of great personality, capable of evolving magnificently over time. It is ideal paired with red meats, game, braised dishes, and aged cheeses, fully expressing the identity of the Montecucco territory.
Its excellence has also been recognized with the Red Award at the Merano WineFestival, achieving a score between 90 and 92.99 points, a prestigious recognition that confirms its high quality.
