More questions

The Merlot Riserva DOC Friuli Colli Orientali, produced by La Viarte winery, is an enological gem that encapsulates the excellence of the terroir from this renowned wine-growing region of Friuli. Blessed by an ideal microclimate due to its proximity to the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, this wine results from a meticulous selection of the best Merlot grapes, carefully handpicked.

Adorned with an elegant ruby red color with garnet reflections, the Merlot Riserva expresses a complex and seductive bouquet, where prominent notes of ripe red fruits such as plum and cherry stand out, enriched by nuances of vanilla, tobacco, and chocolate, a result of careful maturation in French oak barrels.

On the palate, it reveals itself to be full and velvety, with well-integrated tannins that promise excellent aging potential. The robust structure is balanced by a refreshing acidity that leads to a long and persistent finish, where hints of sweet and balsamic spices emerge.

Ideal for accompanying rich dishes of red meat, game, or aged cheeses, La Viarte's Merlot Riserva DOC Friuli Colli Orientali is also perfect as a meditation wine after a meal. This wine not only tells the story of La Viarte winery's passion and attention to detail but also the vibrant identity of a unique territory.

Suitable for long-term cellaring, it is recommended to open this bottle one hour before serving to allow its aromatic complexity to fully express itself. A wine that continues to evolve in the glass and will undoubtedly enrich any collection with its distinctive presence.

The story
La Viarte was established as a production company in the Colli Orientali del Friuli and is recorded as having been founded in 1973. Over the years it has developed dedicated ranges and, in 2023, returned to public attention thanks to a new management phase with the arrival of the Polegato family, who relaunched the company while maintaining its focus on the local area.
Production philosophy
The winery places respect for the territory, the enhancement of native grape varieties, and a detail-oriented cellar approach at its core: targeted winemaking by type, selective use of oak for red wines, and limited production to emphasize quality and territorial identity.
Terroir and vineyards
The winery is located on the hills of the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC, near the border with Slovenia. The vineyards grow on marly-sandy soils, which impart structure and minerality to the wines.
