More questions

Cihuatan Xaman Rum is a fascinating and unique expression in the rum landscape. Produced in El Salvador, this spirit comes in a refined gift box, making it an ideal gift for spirits enthusiasts. Cihuatan Xaman owes its name to the Mayan deity of the north and winter, Xaman, and as such, it evokes a strong and mysterious character.

The uniqueness of this rum lies in its aging process: after being distilled, it rests for 15 years in barrels that previously contained Scotch whisky, and then undergoes a finishing period in casks that once held Pedro Ximénez sweet wine. This process gives Cihuatan Xaman Rum a rich and complex aromatic profile, with notes of vanilla, caramel, and dried fruits intertwined with hints of chocolate and tobacco.

On the palate, it reveals itself as smooth yet enveloping, with a long and pleasantly sweet finish. Perfect for enjoying neat or on the rocks, this rum offers a tasting experience that will intrigue and satisfy connoisseurs. Its elegant presentation also makes it a prestigious addition to any quality spirit enthusiast's collection.

The story
Licorera Cihuatán was established in the early 2000s and is commonly cited as the first operational rum production facility in El Salvador. The project is linked to the agricultural/sugar production group Ingenio La Cabaña; the brand's first international commercial releases date to the mid-2010s. Over time the range expanded with aged expressions (8, 12, 16 years and special bottlings).
Distillation
Continuous column distillation (column stills)
Ageing
Aging mainly in American oak ex-bourbon casks; some expressions receive finishes or additional aging in specific casks (e.g. Ceiba Maya for Xaman, finishes in oloroso or cognac casks for some selections). One release (Artesano) also includes an infusion with local pineapple for a limited period.
