Michelangiolo is a red Romagna Sangiovese DOC Superiore Riserva produced by Calonga, expressing the region’s most representative grape variety. The grapes come from vineyards in Castiglione, in the province of Forlì-Cesena. The west-facing vineyards lie at approximately 100 metres above sea level. The soil is sandy loam with permanent grassing, while the vines are trained using the Guyot system. The declared yield is 50 quintals of grapes per hectare.
Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with one week of maceration. The wine then matures for 12 months in 225-litre French oak barriques, followed by a further 12 months of bottle ageing after bottling. The result is a deep and structured Sangiovese Riserva that reflects its Romagna origin. Michelangiolo is particularly suited to red meats and game. It is an excellent choice for those looking for a characterful red wine made with careful vinification and extended ageing.
