Let’s talk about Whisky Rye 70cl - Stauning

More questions

Whisky Rye 70cl - Stauning represents a refined balance between tradition and innovation in the heart of the Danish Jutland region, where the cool climate and sandy soils create ideal conditions for growing high-quality rye. This single malt stands out for the predominant use of rye grain, which gives the spirit a strong and aromatic character, rich in sweet spices, black pepper, and herbal nuances.

The aging takes place in oak barrels, capable of imparting a round and complex body, enhancing toasted and vanilla notes without overpowering the natural freshness of the grain. On the nose, notes of candied citrus, oriental spices, and a light smokiness emerge, igniting the palate with a long and pleasantly spicy finish. Its balanced structure makes it suitable for both slow tastings and pairing with smoked meat dishes or medium-intensity aged cheeses.

Whisky Rye 70cl - Stauning not only celebrates the richness of the Danish territory but also evokes the art of artisanal distillation with a modern soul, perfect for those seeking authenticity and personality in every sip.

The story
Born as a project of nine friends in 2005 in an old slaughterhouse in the village of Stauning (West Coast of Denmark), commercial production began in 2011. To meet growing demand, a purpose-built modern distillery was opened near the original site in 2018 while retaining artisanal practices such as floor malting and direct-fire distillation.
Distillation
Double distillation in small flame‑heated copper pot stills, keeping shapes and sizes that replicate the artisanal style of the original production.
Ageing
Maturation in oak casks with primary use of ex-bourbon and virgin American oak; experiments and finishes in ex-mezcal, ex-cognac, ex-calvados casks and casks used for vermouth and other liquids.
