Longrow
Longrow is the heavily peated whisky line produced and bottled by Springbank (J & A Mitchell) in Campbeltown. Born as an experiment to recreate an Islay-style single malt on the mainland, Longrow is today recognised for its smoky character, maritime salinity and finishes in a variety of cask types.

The story
Longrow was first distilled at Springbank in 1973 to supply a more peated, robust component for blends under development at the time. After years of intermittent production, the range became a permanent part of the distillery's calendar from the late 20th century and is now one of the site's three signature expressions (alongside Springbank and Hazelburn).
Production philosophy
The Longrow range reflects Springbank's artisanal approach: full control of production stages on the same site, use of traditionally processed and dried malt, and experimentation with cask influence to create peated yet balanced expressions.
Territory
Campbeltown (Kintyre peninsula), Scotland
Awards and recognition
Best Campbeltown Single Malt — World Whiskies Awards 2013 (Longrow Red 11 Years / recognition in the WWA rankings)
Production method
Longrow expressions use barley malt dried over peat fires according to the local traditional process; production takes place entirely on the Springbank site, which retains many artisanal methods (including on-site malt handling). Longrow is characterised by double distillation and ageing in various combinations of casks, sometimes with finishes in red wine barriques.
Distillation
Double distillation
Ageing
Ageing in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, with frequent finishes/secondary maturation in red wine casks ("Red" series — e.g. Pinot Noir) or other selected casks; some releases use refill casks for part of the maturation.
