Official website
The story
The Dudognon / Buraud family has cultivated and produced Cognac in Grande Champagne since 1776. The house remains family-run: official information lists family members (Claudine, Gérald and Pierre Buraud). The maison references historical awards received by family members (gold medal awarded to Paulin Dudognon in 1898; recognitions for Raymond Dudognon in 1990 and Claudine Buraud in 1998).
Production philosophy
Production from estate vineyards with attention to soil and traditional grape varieties; respect for traditional distillation and aging techniques; production without additions of sugar, caramel or colorants, and with blends designed to express the Grande Champagne terroir.
Territory
Grande Champagne (premier cru of the Cognac area), department of Charente; based in Lignières-Ambleville, France.
Awards and recognition
Gold medal awarded to Paulin Dudognon (1898); recognitions for Raymond Dudognon (1990) and Claudine Buraud (1998).
Production method
Viticulture and winemaking by variety (mainly Ugni Blanc, with replantings of Folle Blanche and Montils). Mechanical harvest carried out in stages; varieties are vinified and distilled separately. Traditional wood‑fired distillation in copper stills (the maison reports using two stills dated 1901 and 1936), with separation of brouillis, heads, heart and tails. The eaux-de-vie are aged in French Limousin oak casks and subsequently assembled.
Distillation
Traditional wood‑fired distillation in copper stills; each variety is distilled separately; process includes brouillis and a second distillation (bonne chauffe) with separation of heads, heart and tails.
Ageing
Aging in French Limousin oak casks; the maison notes the use of new Limousin casks for some expressions; subsequent assemblage/blending without added sugar or caramel.
