Winery history Arnaldo Caprai

The company's history began with Arnaldo Caprai's purchase of Tenuta Val di Maggio in 1971. Since then the family has gradually expanded the vineyards and steered production toward showcasing Sagrantino. When his son Marco took the helm in the mid-1980s, years of agronomic and enological research produced iconic labels such as Collepiano and Sagrantino "25 Anni", and helped promote Sagrantino di Montefalco internationally.

Production philosophy

The winery follows an approach based on tradition, research and experimentation: agronomic and oenological research, attention to the territory’s typicity and sustainability projects, supported by technical collaborations and consultancy to refine production and quality techniques.

Terroir and vineyards

The estate and vineyards are located in the Montefalco area of Umbria; the winery has played a central role in the revival of Sagrantino di Montefalco and manages vineyards spread across the hills surrounding the town, with a focus on native Umbrian grape varieties.

Awards and recognitions

On the official website and in company materials, international scores and recognitions are listed, acknowledgements from Gambero Rosso and national and international awards received over the years; additionally, some labels have received specific recognitions.
