Winery history Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama was founded in 1976 by four families from Rome, who began renewing the vineyards and building a new winery. Marco Pallanti took over winemaking in 1982. Haiku was created in 2009.

Production philosophy

The winery says it focuses on quality and expressing its place of origin. Haiku interprets Ama’s terroir through a blend that differs from the traditional Chianti Classico varietal mix: about 50% Sangiovese, with the remainder divided equally between Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

Terroir and vineyards

The vineyards surround the village of Ama, in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, within the Chianti Classico area. Haiku is associated with the Montebuoni vineyard; the winery gives an elevation of about 430–520 metres for its vineyards.
