Winery history Castello Romitorio

The estate takes its name from the ancient fortification on which it stands and was revitalized by Sandro Chia, who bought the property and began its restoration and the planting of the vineyards. Since 2006 his son Filippo Chia has led a new phase with the construction of a winery and the expansion of high-altitude Sangiovese vineyards, consolidating production in the Montalcino area.

Production philosophy

The estate's production approach combines attention to the terroir with winemaking practices aimed at showcasing Sangiovese: careful grape selection, controlled fermentations and aging in wood for the Brunello. The estate emphasizes a strong bond between wine and art, with meticulous care of each vineyard and the pursuit of the fullest expression of the terroir.

Terroir and vineyards

Located in Loc. Romitorio, in the territory of Montalcino, the estate cultivates vineyards on the hilly slopes of northwest Montalcino, with vines situated at approximately 200 to 400 meters in altitude. The area combines cool breezes with the Mediterranean influences typical of the region.
