Winery history Fonterenza

The estate began with the conversion of a family farm in the hills south of Montalcino. Twin sisters Margherita and Francesca Padovani progressively converted the property to organic/biodynamic viticulture starting in the late 1990s: some sources indicate work began around 1997, while others report the first plantings in 1999 and the first vintages in the early 2000s. The estate has grown while maintaining an artisanal approach, with small vineyards and winemaking based on indigenous yeasts and minimal cellar intervention.

Production philosophy

An approach based on sustainable, biodynamic agriculture, hands-on vineyard work, the use of natural remedies for vine protection, and spontaneous fermentations in the cellar with reduced use of additives. The stated goal is to highlight the expression of the terroir in the bottle.

Terroir and vineyards

The vineyards are located in Sant'Angelo in Colle. The area features varied soils and hilly terrain with exposures and elevations reported at around 420–444 meters above sea level, influenced by marine currents and the nearby Monte Amiata.
