Discover the story, territory and wines of W. & J. Graham's.
Portuguese house specializing in Port wines (Port), based in Vila Nova de Gaia with vineyards in the Douro; noted for its Vintage Ports, aged Tawnies and the Six Grapes label.
The company traces its origins to the activities of brothers William and John Graham and, according to the company's historical records, began in 1820 when the family received a shipment of Portuguese wine as payment for a debt. During the 19th century the company acquired the Quinta dos Malvedos estate and consolidated its reputation. In the 1970s the brand passed to the Symington family, who still run it and have integrated it into their network of estates and productions.
Production philosophy
It combines the traditional aging and blending practices typical of Port with modern cellar interventions; the official approach states the intention to best express the characteristics of its Douro estates, balancing respect for tradition with oenological innovation.
Terroir and vineyards
Production is centered on the Douro valley and includes wines from properties such as Quinta dos Malvedos and other historic quintas. Maturation and part of the winemaking take place at Graham’s Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, near Porto. The estates and sourcing also include other historic properties mentioned in the sources and, according to reports, the group's ownership has extended beyond the Douro.
Awards and recognitions
Among the recognitions cited by the sources is the granting of a Royal Warrant.
