Girolamo Luxardo Distillery
Luxardo was born in 1821; a company that quickly became an important reality in the world of distillation and liqueurs. It is located in the city of Zadar, on the eastern coast of the Adriatic, in beautiful Dalmatia. It was Girolamo Luxardo's wife, Maria Canevari, who produced homemade liqueurs, as was the custom at that time; she devoted herself above all to the production of "Rosolio Maraschino" an ancient Dalmatian liqueur of medieval origin.
Girolamo thus decided to expand the production of his wife Maria's now famous liqueur, by founding the LUXARDO factory. Thanks to the excellent quality of the liqueur, the Emperor of Austria granted him the exclusive right to produce Rosolio Maraschino for 15 years.
During the Second World War, however, there was a setback, in fact in 1944 the communist partisans of Tito took possession of Dalmatia; many resisted, others fled abroad, but the Luxardo factory was razed to the ground by bombing.
Giorgio Luxardo and the young Nicolò III fled to Italy and in 1947 with great tenacity decided to refound the distillery in the town of Torreglia, in the province of Padua. Today the Luxardo company is one of the rare European companies to be wholly owned by the same founding family; the innovative systems guarantee excellent products from all qualitative points of view and their products are exported to more than 80 countries around the world.
The range of products today has greatly expanded, including the version of a classic London Dry Gin, Fernet, Apricot distillate, Grappa Euganea, Bitter Rosso and Bianco, Amaretto liqueur without forgetting the first and inimitable MARASCHINO . All products are exclusively made following the authentic and ancient secular recipes of Girolamo Luxardo.
