Nonino Distillery

Nonino is one of the most famous Italian distilleries in the world, a great symbol of tradition, quality and prestige. It was created in 1897 by Orazio Nonino, who invented a curious itinerant activity with an alembic mounted on wheels. After years of wandering, he established his headquarters in Percoto, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, not far from Udine.

Over 120 years of activity always in the hands of the Nonino family, which over time has managed to transform it from a rustic and peasant daily distillate into a noble and prestigious brandy, to be drunk on important occasions. In the 1970s Benito and Giannola Nonino created single-variety grappas, bringing the ancient native vines of the area to the top. The work of Benito and Giannola, who have been awarded the title of Cavalieri del Lavoro, is now carried on by their three daughters Cristina, Antonella and Elisabetta, who have remained faithful to all the criteria of production and absolute quality.

The pomace used is very fresh, destemmed and moist, fermented for a short time in steel vats at a controlled temperature. The distillation takes place with an artisanal method with steam-heated pot stills, under the careful supervision of the master distiller, who establishes the cutting of the heads and tails.

The choice of the family and the refusal to use continuous industrial systems allows the company to produce products of the highest quality without compromise. For this reason, today Nonino owns 5 craft distilleries for a total of 73 stills which, at the time of the harvest, work 24 hours a day. The distillate is aged exclusively in barriques and small casks, which gives it a slow and important natural enrichment, without the addition of other additives.
