Galantino Oil Mill

The heart of Puglia is a land of centuries-old olive groves, crossed by sheep tracks and "Roads of Oil". A wonderful region with the largest production of extra virgin olive oil in the world. Frantoio Galantino is located on the outskirts of Bisceglie, a pretty town of medieval origin overlooking the Adriatic Sea, a perfect place for the cultivation of the olive tree, also as a tourist destination and an important archaeological site.

In 1926, Vito Galantino bought a nineteenth-century mill and transformed it into an oil mill. Since then, three generations have followed one another, and all of them have engaged in the splendid milling activity, bringing it to the highest levels of absolute quality. Today Frantoio Galantino supplies itself with olives from the olive groves of its own farm, and also from 2,000 entrusted producers. The harvest is carried out by hand or with modern facilitators, at the moment of the right degree of ripeness of the drupes. At the mill the olives are carefully selected, washed, and crushed with stone millstones; cold pressing and centrifugation favor and enhance the taste and fragrance of the Extra Virgin Olive Oil in the best possible way. Subsequently, the oil is selected and checked in the laboratory, to be then certified by the Mastro Oleario.

In 1960 the Galantino family bought the "La Fenice" farm, an immense expanse of 47 hectares of olive trees, with over 15,000 plants, with the Ogliarola and Coratina varieties. The olive harvest is carried out by hand picking on nets when they have reached the right degree of ripeness; the period goes from October 15th to December 31st. The quality of the product is excellent as evidenced by the immense care dedicated to the olive trees. An effective and modern monitoring system for parasitic attacks is applied to the plants, in order to limit the use of pesticides. All the care dedicated to the production chain, from pruning to bottling, allows Galantino Extra Virgin Olive Oil to have the best organoleptic qualities.
