The brand takes its name from the Welsh privateer Sir Henry Morgan. The Captain Morgan Rum Company was established in the post-war period (1940s) under Seagram and developed as a Caribbean rum brand. In 2001 the brand was acquired by Diageo. Over time blending, bottling and sourcing have been managed in different Caribbean locations (including Jamaica, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands) depending on period and market.
