Producer history Cardhu
Cardhu's origins trace back to illicit distilling by John and Helen Cumming from 1811; the distillery was officially licensed and named Cardhu in 1824. Throughout the 19th century it remained under the Cumming family's management and expanded, later being sold to Johnnie Walker & Sons at the end of the century. It subsequently became part of larger industry groups and is today operated by Diageo. Over its history the site underwent enlargements and reconstructions (late 19th century, 1960s) and has been important both as a single malt and as a key component in famous blends.
