Distillation and production

Production method

The family manages the entire chain: white wine production, on-site distillation with Armagnac-type stills (including an Orthez continuous still), followed by aging in oak casks and bottling at the Château de Maniban.

Distillation

Distillation with Armagnac-type stills; the maison uses an Orthez continuous still and other on-site stills, with typical spirit strength at distillation output between 52% and 60% ABV.

Ageing

Traditional aging in oak casks: initial years in new casks (around 400 L), then transfer to older casks for slower, progressive maturation.

Producer history Castarède

The Castarède family has been active in the Armagnac trade since 1832; the house is recognized as the oldest maison de négoce of Armagnac. The main estate is the Château de Maniban, in the heart of Bas-Armagnac, purchased by the family and today home to winemaking, distillation, aging and bottling operations. The maison has remained family-run and also maintains a showroom in central Paris.

Production philosophy

To highlight the terroir of Bas-Armagnac and the family tradition: attention to the quality of local grapes, artisanal production and traditional aging in oak barrels to express the identity of the eaux-de-vie.

Territory

Bas-Armagnac (Mauléon-d'Armagnac, Gers) with a commercial showroom in Paris (140 Boulevard Haussmann).
