The story
Production linked to the brand dates back to the plant founded as Licorerías Unidas S.A. (LUSA) in the late 1950s (production facility established in 1959). In 2002 it came under the control of Venezuelan entrepreneurs who relaunched it as Destilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA) and brought the Diplomático brand to international markets. In 2022/2023 the brand and related assets were acquired by Brown‑Forman, which integrated Diplomático into its global portfolio.
Production philosophy
Putting craftsmanship, raw material control and blending mastery at the centre: Diplomático favors the combination of different distillation methods and maturation in wood to achieve complex, consistent aromatic profiles, while celebrating the brand’s history (the Don Juancho icon) and Venezuelan rum tradition.

Some premium expressions include sherry cask finishes and use solera‑type ageing systems to achieve consistency and complexity.
