Distillation and production

Production method

Grapes are harvested and processed on the estate; natural fermentation of the Charente wine; double distillation on the lees; prolonged aging in the estate's historic chais/cellars; in-house blending and bottling.

Distillation

Double distillation on the lees, performed in copper Charentais pot stills (traditional regional method).

Ageing

Long aging in the estate's centuries-old chais/cellars, using both dry and humid chais to promote different oxidation and maturation profiles.

Producer history Frapin

The Frapin family has been established in southwest France since 1270 and spans more than twenty generations active in viticulture and Cognac production. The company grew around the Château de Fontpinot; the current owners manage a large estate located in the Premier cru (Grande Champagne).

Production philosophy

Preservation of the land and family tradition: expression of the Grande Champagne terroir through vinification, double distillation on the lees and long aging in historic cellars. Commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship on the estate.

Territory

Domaine Château de Fontpinot, Grande Champagne (Premier Cru de Cognac); Segonzac, Charente department, France.

Awards and recognitions

Recent awards cited by the estate: International Spirits Challenge 2025 (three cognacs awarded, including a double gold medal for the Millésime 1998 – 25 years); recognition at the Cognac Masters 2025 and the World Cognac Awards 2025.
