The brand's official history dates back to the 18th century: in 1795 Jose María Guadalupe de Cuervo obtained the first royal authorization to produce and sell “vino de mezcal” (today tequila). Since then the family and the facilities associated with the brand have developed in the Tequila (Jalisco) area; the historic Fábrica La Rojeña is cited as the historic distillery still in operation. Today the brand is part of the Becle, S.A.B. de C.V. group, which manages global production and distribution.
