Distillation and production

Production method

Juniper berries and many botanicals are left to macerate at room temperature (about 15 days) and then distilled in small copper stills; the spirit undergoes subsequent rectifications to concentrate the aromas. Some botanicals (hops, laurel, oregano) are treated using a low-boiling distillation technique.

Distillation

Cold maceration for some botanicals (juniper 15 days) followed by distillation in small copper stills; some botanicals are distilled using a low-boiling technique and the distillate is rectified multiple times.

Producer history Kapriol

The original Liquore Kapriol recipe dates back to 1948 and was created at the Distilleria dell’Alpe. In 2002 the Maschio family acquired the distillery and relaunched the traditional range; from 2016 the historic recipe was reworked to create the Kapriol Gin brand, with the aim of transforming the old forest distillate into a line of contemporary artisan gins.

Production philosophy

To reinterpret a traditional mountain recipe while preserving the aromatic balance between juniper and Alpine botanicals, using an artisanal approach that combines slow infusions and distillations carried out on historic stills.
