Lepanto

Explore the spirits, production style and story of Lepanto.

Lepanto is the brand of Brandy de Jerez produced by González Byass in Jerez de la Frontera. Made from Palomino Fino grapes, it is distilled by double distillation in Charentais copper stills and aged through the criaderas y solera system in American oak casks that previously held Jerez wines (Tío Pepe, Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez). The range includes Solera Gran Reserva expressions such as the classic 12-year release and the Oloroso Viejo (OV) and Pedro Ximénez (PX) editions.

Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Production is based on the use of mosto yema (first pressings) of Palomino Fino grapes, followed by double distillation in Charentais copper stills; the heart of the distillation (Holanda) is selected. Aging takes place in the traditional criaderas y solera system in American oak casks previously seasoned with Jerez wines; some expressions undergo additional finishing in casks that contained Oloroso or Pedro Ximénez.

Distillation

Double distillation in Charentais copper stills; selection of the heart ('Holanda').

Ageing

Traditional criaderas y solera system in American oak casks previously used to age Jerez wines; some expressions include additional finishing in casks that held Oloroso Viejo or Pedro Ximénez.

Producer history Lepanto

The Lepanto brand was registered in 1909 as a tribute to the Battle of Lepanto; its current incarnation is promoted and produced by the González Byass bodegas in Jerez, which recovered and developed on-site brandy production to offer a Brandy de Jerez Gran Reserva made entirely in the region.

Production philosophy

To showcase the identity and terroir of Jerez: exclusive use of locally sourced Palomino Fino grapes, artisanal care in distillation (selection of the heart 'Holanda') and long maturation in casks that previously held Jerez wines to transfer complexity and character.

Territory

Jerez de la Frontera, province of Cádiz, Andalusia (Spain).

Awards and recognitions

International medals reported for the range (examples: International Spirits Challenge 2023 - Gold; IWSC medals and recognitions in The Spirits Business Global Brandy Masters in 2025, awarded to various expressions of the line).
