Based on a malt spirit (malt wine) derived from cereals and a selection of botanical extracts. Production takes place in Amsterdam and combines tradition (the malt spirit typical of genever) with botanical infusions typical of gin.
Producer history Otenba
Otenba began as a personal project by Monique ten Kortenaar, who previously worked with companies such as Lucas Bols and Wynand Fockink. After a crowdfunding campaign the product went into production and was introduced to the market around 2019–2020. The project's aim is to reinterpret the Dutch genever tradition by blending it with botanical sensibilities closer to modern gin.
Production philosophy
To unite the strengths of gin and genever: preserve the malt character of genever while offering the freshness and accessibility of a gin. The brand emphasizes flavors and botanicals inspired by Asia (pandan, lemongrass, green tea) to create a distinctive aromatic profile.
