Distillation and production

Production method

Typical Port production: partial fermentation of grapes followed by fortification with grape spirit to stop fermentation and preserve sweetness; ageing both in wood (for tawnies and reserves) and in bottle (for Vintage Ports). Blends are built from extensive barrel reserves stored in the lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia.

Ageing

Ageing in seasoned oak casks and large oak vats in the Vila Nova de Gaia lodges for Tawnies and reserves; long wood ageing for age‑statement labels (10/20/30/40/50/60 years), bottle ageing for Vintage Ports; LBV aged longer in cask than Vintage before bottling.

Producer history Porto Taylor's

Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman has very early origins: the house's history is traced back to 1692 and the current name (Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman) was established through partnerships in the 19th century. The house has remained closely linked to the cellar-ageing traditions in Vila Nova de Gaia and to family management over the centuries.

Production philosophy

Maintain long-ageing reserves, respect traditional Port winemaking techniques and meticulous care of the cellar-ageing process in cool, humid lodges. Emphasis on quality, careful blending of reserves and controlled releases of limited editions from the best vintages.

Territory

Douro Valley (Douro), with lodges and cellar-ageing operations located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto, Portugal. Grapes come from various Douro sub-regions (Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo, Douro Superior).
