The story
According to the brand's commercial information, El Ron Prohibido is inspired by a historical/marketing narrative that a Mexican "prohibited" rum was shipped in used casks and acquired particular characteristics. The contemporary brand was relaunched/established in recent times and is based at the former Hacienda Corralejo in Pénjamo, Guanajuato (information reported in industry profiles). Current production uses molasses distillates and a solera ageing system with casks that previously held sweet/raisin wines, as indicated in product descriptions.
