The story
The Roots label was launched as a line of artisanal liqueurs in the early 2010s by members of a family connected to the historic Callicounis distilling business in Kalamata. Roots releases (including Mastiha/Mastic, Mastic Vintage Strength, Diktamo, Kanela and Rakomelo) originate from a family distilling tradition dating back to 1850 and were introduced to the market from 2013 as reinterpretations of traditional Greek recipes.
Production philosophy
Roots focuses on natural extractions and native Greek ingredients, artisanal formulations and sourcing of local herbs and raw materials. Brand communications emphasize small-batch production, recipes inspired by ancient herbal remedies and the use of natural extracts without artificial flavours.
