The story
Destilería La Alteña was founded by Don Felipe Camarena in 1937; the Tapatio brand was marketed from the 1940s. Production has remained tied to the Camarena family for multiple generations (with figures such as Carlos Camarena involved in distillation) and the distillery is known for producing artisanal tequila for various brands while maintaining traditional methods in the Los Altos of Jalisco.
