The Refoscolo del Peduncolo Riserva DOC Friuli Colli Orientali from the La Viarte winery is a superb example of the winemaking prowess of the Friuli region. This wine is produced exclusively in selected vintages, where Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes are brought to their peak of ripeness and structure.

The Refoscolo presents itself with a deep red color, almost impenetrable, reflecting the vibrancy of the grape variety and the intensity of its terroir. On the nose, it stands out for its complex aromas of ripe red fruit, sweet spices, and a slight hint of vanilla, due to the aging in wood that does not overwhelm its freshness but elevates it with elegance.

On the palate, the wine demonstrates a robust structure, well-balanced by lively acidity and well-polished tannins that promise excellent longevity. You will notice a persistent aftertaste that brings back notes of blackberry, chocolate, and a touch of wet earth, which are typical of the Colli Orientali terroir.

This wine is ideal to pair with rich red meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses, where it can truly showcase its strength and complex character. It is recommended to decant it for at least an hour before serving to fully enjoy its qualities.

Stored properly in a good cellar, the Refoscolo del Peduncolo Riserva has aging potential that extends for many years, evolving and maturing in complexity and depth. I invite every wine enthusiast who appreciates wines rich in history and character to discover this gem from La Viarte, which expresses the true essence of Friuli.

Winery history
La Viarte was established as a production company in the Colli Orientali del Friuli and is recorded as having been founded in 1973. Over the years it has developed dedicated ranges and, in 2023, returned to public attention thanks to a new management phase with the arrival of the Polegato family, who relaunched the company while maintaining its focus on the local area.
Production philosophy
The winery places respect for the territory, the enhancement of native grape varieties, and a detail-oriented cellar approach at its core: targeted winemaking by type, selective use of oak for red wines, and limited production to emphasize quality and territorial identity.
Terroir and vineyards
The winery is located on the hills of the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC, near the border with Slovenia. The vineyards grow on marly-sandy soils, which impart structure and minerality to the wines.
