The Gruner Veltliner "Durnsteiner" from the renowned Weingut F.X. Pichler winery represents an emblem of elegance and finesse that characterize the wines of the Wachau wine region in Austria. Made exclusively from Gruner Veltliner grapes, this wine stands out for its complex and balanced aromatic profile.

On the nose, the "Durnsteiner" offers an intriguing bouquet of fruity aromas with dominant notes of green apple and white peach, enriched by accents of white pepper and a delicate mineral hint, typical of the terrain of origin. On the palate, the lively acidity harmoniously balances with a soft texture and a long-lasting finish that invites you to take another sip.

Ideal for accompanying fish dishes, such as baked trout, or for enhancing a selection of fresh cheeses, the Gruner Veltliner "Durnsteiner" from Weingut F.X. Pichler also has aging potential that allows it to be fully appreciated even after several years from the harvest. A true gem for wine lovers looking for a representative label of fine Austrian viticulture.

Discover the story and wines of Weingut F.X. Pichler.

A leading winery in the Wachau (Austria), specializing in Riesling and Grüner Veltliner, known for its single-vineyard wines and terroir-centric approach.
Region: Wachau, Niederösterreich (Lower Austria)
Country: Austria
Grapes: Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Gelber Muskateller, Sauvignon Blanc
Historic vineyards and individual prestigious Rieden. Portfolio composed of 50% Grüner Veltliner and 50% Riesling, with small lots of other varieties. Organic certification listed on the website and attention to sustainable practices. Decision to discontinue the traditional Vinea Wachau categories from 2020 onward, adopting the DAC approach for indicating origins. They also produce a natural, organic grape juice called "mini fx".
Winery history
The family estate has roots in the Wachau, and the Pichler family has been active for several generations; the Oberloiben estate is already mentioned as early as the late 19th century, and current management comprises Lucas Franz Pichler together with Johanna Elisabeth, who continue the family tradition. In recent decades the winery has expanded its holdings into individual high-quality Rieden, developing a style focused on physiological ripeness and on expressing the vineyard.
Production philosophy
They seek to highlight the character of each individual vineyard rather than a uniform style: hand-harvesting on steep parcels, careful attention to the physiological ripeness of the grapes and massal selection to preserve varietal and site-specific characteristics. Sustainable and organic farming practices are also in place and are certified on the winery's website.
Terroir and vineyards
The winery is located in the Wachau, with vineyards around Oberloiben and Dürnstein. Among the Rieden mentioned are Loibenberg, Kellerberg, Klostersatz, Trum, Burgstall and Steinertal; many parcels are steep terraces with dry-stone walls, typical of the Wachau.
Awards and recognitions
