Winery history Cantine Amato

The family story began in 1927, when Vincenzo Giardina Papa opened an osteria in Piraino. In 1958, his son-in-law Rosario Amato founded the winery there. Today, the business is run by Salvatore Amato and his family, including his son Rosario.

Production philosophy

Authenticity, a strong connection to place and sustainability are the winery’s stated principles. Vineyard work follows organic viticulture principles; the company has practised organic farming since 2011 and has certified its wines since 2015.

Terroir and vineyards

The winery selects grapes from four Sicilian areas: Patti in the province of Messina, the Jato Valley, Grotte in south-central Sicily, and Marsala. The winery’s Nero d’Avola is associated with Contrada Guastella in the Jato Valley.
