Winery history Castello Banfi

The estate developed around the medieval castle of Poggio alle Mura, acquired and restored by the Banfi group. Over the years the property has become a center for Brunello di Montalcino production, a headquarters for zonation and clonal selection studies of Sangiovese, and a destination for wine tourism thanks to its accommodation, dining and museum exhibitions.

Production philosophy

An approach that combines ampelographic research and winemaking technologies with the enhancement of the local area and hospitality: improving grape quality, technical experimentation, and promotion of the agricultural landscape.

Terroir and vineyards

Located on the southern side of the municipality of Montalcino, the estate comprises vineyards on the hills surrounding the castle and several plots designed to showcase the characteristics of Sangiovese di Montalcino.

Awards and recognitions

Numerous ratings and recognitions from international publications and institutional awards cited by the company, including awards received by the Banfi group at Vinitaly.
