Discover the story, territory and wines of Chimney Rock.
Winery in the Stags Leap District (Napa Valley) known for its estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blends produced exclusively from the estate’s grapes.
The estate took shape in the early 1980s when Hack and Stella Wilson purchased a large tract of land on the east side of the Silverado Trail, planting vineyards and building a residence inspired by Cape Dutch architecture. The estate's first vintage was produced in the mid-1980s; in subsequent years the property was expanded and remodeled with the aim of favoring Bordeaux varieties. In 2000 the Terlato family entered as partners and in 2004 took full ownership, investing in winemaking facilities and in the enhancement of the vineyards, which were divided into numerous distinct blocks.
Production philosophy
The winery places smart, sustainable viticultural practices at its core and adopts a "low‑intervention" cellar approach: small‑lot fermentations to showcase individual parcels, climate control for barrel aging, and a focus on bringing out the terroir's character rather than heavy‑handed cellar interventions. The work is led by the technical team and the winemaker, who aim for elegance, balance and long aging of the wines.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in the heart of the Stags Leap District, the estate brings together diverse soils and numerous distinct vineyards planted in separate blocks to express the individual characteristics of the territory. A selective approach in the vineyard and lot-by-lot winemaking help translate these soil and microclimatic differences into concentrated yet refined wines.
