Winery Hospices de Beaune

The institution known as the Hospices de Beaune traces its origins to the Hôtel-Dieu founded by Nicolas Rolin and Guigone de Salins in 1443. Over the centuries its vineyard holdings grew through bequests and donations, giving rise to a domaine made up of historic parcels whose bottles are offered for sale annually during the celebrated Vente des Vins.

It combines a charitable tradition with vineyard management: proceeds from the wine production support the activities of the healthcare institution. In recent years the estate’s management has promoted the protection of the viticultural heritage and a move toward more sustainable practices, with a project to convert to organic farming.

The domaine is located in Beaune, in the Côte-d'Or department. The vineyards extend over several historic parcels spread across appellations of the Côte-d'Or; the production reflects the typical terroirs of Burgundy and includes both red and white wines. The reds are made predominantly from Pinot Noir, the whites from Chardonnay. The holdings also include parcels classified as grands crus, acquired through donations.
