Discover the story, territory and wines of Klein Constantia.
Historic winery in the Constantia Valley (Cape Town), internationally renowned for its Vin de Constance and for a range of high-quality white and red wines.
The estate's origins date back to 1685, when Simon van der Stel identified the slopes of the Constantiaberg as well suited to viticulture. After the division of the original property in 1712, the estate known as Klein Constantia was created. The estate gained great renown in the 18th–19th centuries for the sweet wines of Constantia; in the second half of the 20th century it was relaunched and, from 2011, entered a new phase under the ownership of international investors and with Bordeaux consultants, consolidating modern production and the reputation of Vin de Constance.
Production philosophy
The estate's philosophy combines respect for tradition with attention to innovation: working with patience, respecting the ecosystem and caring for every step from the vineyard to the cellar. Klein Constantia states an approach focused on quality, precision in the vineyard and the pursuit of balance in the wines, with practices aimed at environmental sustainability.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate is located on the slopes of the Constantiaberg, on decomposed granite soils, with a microclimate cooled by breezes from False Bay. The vineyards extend across varying elevations, and the estate protects indigenous woodland areas such as the Grootbos at the center of the property, implementing conservation measures and regenerative practices.
Awards and recognitions
Vin de Constance and other wines from the estate have received international recognition; official references include awards and high scores.
