Winery Penfolds

Penfolds was founded in Magill when Christopher and Mary Penfold planted the first vines in 1844. Over the decades the winery grew from local production of fortified and table wines to an international presence, with key moments such as the arrival of Max Schubert and the experimentation that led to the creation of the famous Grange in the 1950s. Today Penfolds combines tradition and innovation, continuing to nurture historic vineyards and select fruit from many regions for its flagship wines.

The company's approach combines technical rigor and creativity: Penfolds prioritizes the pursuit of the "house style" through site selection, cellar experimentation and a vision that brings together science and craftsmanship to produce age-worthy, distinctive wines.

Historic headquarters in Magill, with sourcing from many Australian wine regions including Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Eden Valley, Clare Valley, Wrattonbully and also cooler areas such as Tasmania. Penfolds also has international projects and fruit sources, for example Napa Valley in the United States.
