Winery history Tenuta San Leonardo

The property occupies a medieval village on the left bank of the Adige. Monastic origins, a residential core and the family villa characterize the estate. The Guerrieri Gonzaga family has been present in San Leonardo for centuries, and Villa Gresti is the family's historic residence; part of the complex houses a museum preserving documents and objects related to the estate's agricultural life.

Production philosophy

Focused on expressing the terroir, with careful vineyard management and traditional winemaking practices: Bordeaux-style blends, spontaneous fermentations in small concrete vats, and extended ageing in wood and in bottle. In recent years the estate has also moved toward more sustainable practices, and the conversion of the vineyards to organic farming has been reported by commercial and industry sources.

Terroir and vineyards

The estate is located in Vallagarina, in the far south of Trentino, amid a strip of vineyards sheltered by the mountains and bathed by the Adige River; the landscape is marked by alluvial hills and the nearby Dolomites, elements that influence the freshness and structure of the wines.

Awards and recognitions

The San Leonardo winery and its wine have received recognition and high scores from leading wine publications over the years.
