The Glenlivet Distillery
500 million years ago violent volcanic eruptions formed Scotland, the melting of the ice left a primordial, wild place, surrounded by granite mountains and rivers of crystal clear water, this is Speyside, this is the Glenlivet area and this is "The spirit of the Glen".
Curiosity: The Glenlivet operates with 14 stills, seven for the first distillation and seven for the second, the water used comes from the Josie's Well stream and barley is selected from Banffshire crops. No peat is used in the drying process and for fermentation the distillery still uses wooden vats instead of stainless steel ones. For distillation, stills are used which have the original shape and size designed by George Smith more than 150 years ago.
