Distillation and production

Production method

Assembly (marriage) and bottling of single malts sourced exclusively from Islay distilleries. Standard bottles are produced in small batches and presented without added coloring and not chill-filtered; there are also editions finished in particular casks and cask strength releases.

Distillation

The spirits that make up Big Peat are distilled at their origin distilleries (single malts); the brand's production consists of marrying/assembling and bottling the selected whiskies.

Ageing

Varied: there are NAS versions and bottles with age statements (e.g. 10 and 12 years), plus special editions with finishes in particular casks (e.g. Mizunara) and Christmas cask strength releases finished in sherry casks.

Producer history Big Peat

Big Peat was introduced in 2009 by Douglas Laing & Co as the representative expression of Islay in the Remarkable Regional Malts family. Over the years the range has expanded with age-stated versions, special editions and seasonal releases (including Christmas cask strength editions).

Production philosophy

To capture Islay's sensory profile in a bottle through the marriage of the island's single malts: an approach focused on the characteristic peaty, saline and phenolic personality of those malts, keeping bottlings at meaningful strength and avoiding color adjustments or filtrations that would alter their texture.
