Production method

Integrated facility producing both malt and grain whisky: processes carried out in-house from mash cooking through to bottling. Malt production is paired with various systems for grain whisky; the distillery uses pot stills for malts and continuous/column stills and combinations (beer column/doubler, kettle & column) for grain.

Producer history Fuji Gotemba

The facility was started in the 1970s as part of Kirin group's whisky activities: production at the Gotemba site began in the early 1970s (operational since 1973). Originally associated with international joint ventures during its establishment, the distillery is now managed by Kirin and over time has developed dedicated lines such as the 'Fuji' range (launched as flagship in 2020).

Production philosophy

A search for a whisky style that highlights the local terroir: mountain climate, groundwater sourced from Mount Fuji and complete control of the production process. The distillery aims to produce versatile whiskies suitable for both the Japanese domestic market and for export.

Territory

Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan (at the foot of Mount Fuji). The location at about 620 m above sea level and the local climatic conditions are cited as favorable for maturation.
