Production method

As an independent bottler G&M acquires new-make or casks from third-party distilleries or commissions specific fills; the liquids are then matured in its own bonded warehouses and, when deemed ready, selected and bottled across different series and ranges.

Distillation

Not applicable (primary role: independent bottler). Some distillation is carried out by owned distilleries (e.g. Benromach, The Cairn).

Ageing

Aging in oak casks stored in bonded warehouses; selection and management of maturation according to the desired profile.

Producer history G&M

Founded in Elgin at the end of the 19th century, G&M (Gordon & MacPhail) began as a grocery and spirits retailer and evolved into one of the most important independent bottlers of Scotch whisky. The family-run company accumulated and managed for decades a significant reserve of casks that enabled it to market historic and rare releases. In the 1990s it acquired the Benromach distillery and later expanded into additional maturation activities, wholesale trade and direct production through its own distilleries.

Production philosophy

Strong focus on the selection and management of casks to enhance the spirit's character: emphasis on maturation, wood-spirit matching and releasing at the moment considered optimal. The approach is that of a bottler-maturation expert rather than mass industrial production.
