Distillation and production

Production method

Each botanical is macerated separately and subjected to independent distillation; the partial distillates are then blended to obtain the final product. Citrus botanicals undergo longer maceration times compared with herbs; the base is a neutral grain alcohol (barley neutral spirit according to sources). A small-batch artisanal copper alembic (Florentine style) is used for distillations.

Separate maceration of botanicals and individual distillation of each extract (independent distillation), then blending of the distillates; use of a copper alembic in Florentine style for small-batch distillations.

Producer history Gin Mare

Gin Mare was conceived as a 'Mediterranean gin' concept and launched in 2010 from a project involving the Giró family (MG Destilerías) and commercial partners (Vantguard/Global Premium Brands). Production was developed at MG Destilerías in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Catalonia), in a site that includes a historic chapel housing the original still. In September 2022 Brown-Forman announced the acquisition of the brand; the transaction was completed on 3 November 2022, with production continuing at MG Destilerías.

To translate Mediterranean gastronomy and aromas into a gin: highlight local botanicals and slow processing methods to achieve an aromatic profile that evokes cuisine, aromatic herbs and the Mediterranean coast.
