Distillation and production

Production method

Production of single malt according to traditional methods: use of malted barley, distillation in copper pot stills and long maturation in Spanish oak casks containing sherry (PX and Oloroso). Casks are stored in the distillery's typical dunnage warehouses; water is drawn from local springs/streams. In recent years the communication of some packaging specifics (e.g. the indication "Non Chill Filtered") has been modified on labels, as documented by sources.

Distillation

Traditional distillation in copper pot stills, typical of Scottish single malts.

Ageing

Long maturation in selected oak casks, primarily sherry casks (Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso), housed in dunnage warehouses.

Producer history Glendronach

Founded in 1826 by James Allardice as one of Scotland's first licensed distilleries, Glendronach has a long tradition of sherry-cask maturation. Ownership changed several times over the years; recent events include closure/mothballing in 1996, reopening in 2002, acquisition by The BenRiach Distilling Company Ltd in 2008 and transfer to Brown‑Forman in 2016. The distillery has progressively built its reputation as 'sherry cask connoisseurs'.

Production philosophy

Preserve and enhance a style of whisky deeply linked to sherry-cask maturation: balancing the robust Highland spirit with the aromatic influence of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso casks imported from Andalusia. Tradition, artisanal care of wood and careful cask selection are central to the production approach.
