Distillation and production

Production method

Traditional single malt production: malted barley and spring water, fermentation and distillation in copper pot stills; the new spirit is filled into selected casks and left to mature in dunnage warehouses.

Distillation

Distillation in copper pot stills with direct‑fire heating.

Ageing

Extended maturation mainly in ex‑Sherry (Oloroso) casks stored in dunnage warehouses; other cask types are also used for some expressions and finishing.

Producer history Glenfarclas

Glenfarclas has documented roots in the 19th century: the distilling licence dates back to 1836 and ownership passed to the Grant family in 1865, who have managed it since. During the 20th century the family focused production on maturation in ex‑Sherry casks, building large stocks that later became the renowned 'Family Casks' collection with casks/vintages from the 1950s onward.

Production philosophy

Preserving traditional methods, independence and a focus on maturation: Glenfarclas favours the quality of the wood and time in cask to build the character of its whiskies, avoiding fleeting production trends and cultivating a direct relationship with enthusiasts.

Territory

Ballindalloch, in the Speyside area, north‑east Scotland (United Kingdom).
